The oldest military college in Pakistan is called Military College Jhelum (MCJ). It offers instruction in English for grades VIII through XII. It is situated next to the town of Sarai Alamgir on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road. The complex has a total area of around 170 acres. On March 3, 1922, Prince Edward VIII, the Prince of Wales, established the King George Royal Indian Military School at Sarai Alamgir (KGRIMS). After three years, it began operating as a residential school for Muslim soldier's kids on September 15, 1925, as a token of appreciation for their participation in World War I. Its goal was to educate the rank and file of the British Indian Army troops.
Later, under exceptional circumstances, some gifted students could be recommended by Kitchner College Nowgong for the grant of commission. The institution underwent structural changes during World War II and was elevated to the status of College as King George Royal Indian Military College in 1943 for the purpose of teaching future army commanders.
Its name was changed to Royal Pakistan Military College Jhelum when Pakistan was established. When the name was changed to Military College Jhelum in 1956, it expanded both in terms of scope and services. In order to achieve academic success and personality development, it was reorganised as a top-notch public school and given the responsibility of serving as a feeder school for the Pakistan Military Academy.
Two Houses—Robert House and Birdwood House—were there when school first opened in 1925. Sakeen Residence, the third house, was built in 1928. The school initially operated up to class eight; class nine began in 1930, and the first year began in 1931. In October 1930, the first group of students successfully finished their five-year training/studies. Robert House was replaced in 1967 by Sher Shah House, which served as the junior house until 1989. This structure is now used as an administrative block.
